What is Week Calculator?

Express the time between two dates in weeks and remaining days.

2

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter or select From, To.
  2. Check the unit beside each measurement. For a percentage or rate, use the scale and time period stated in the form.
  3. Choose Calculate, then compare the output with the formula and example below. If you change a value or option, calculate again to update the result.

For this elapsed weeks between dates, read each field label before entering data and keep a copy of the original values. Recalculate after changing any input; the displayed result is based only on the current submission.

3

Formula Used

Weeks = floor(elapsed days/7); remaining days = elapsed days mod 7

The endpoint parses both ISO calendar dates, takes the absolute elapsed-day difference, divides by seven for complete weeks and uses the remainder after division by seven for leftover days.

Worked Example

From 1 March 2026 to 18 March 2026 is 17 elapsed days. floor(17/7) gives 2 full weeks and 17 mod 7 gives 3 remaining days. Reversing the two dates returns the same duration.

Why Use This Calculator?

This is elapsed time, not a count of named calendar-week rows. A 7-day interval is one complete elapsed week regardless of whether it crosses an ISO week-number boundary.

The calculation excludes the starting date in the usual difference between midnight dates. Counting both endpoints for a schedule may require adding one day, but that is a different convention.

Because only dates are accepted, daylight-saving clock changes do not add or remove a calendar day here. Time zones and times of day are outside the model.

The result is absolute, so it does not say whether the second date is before or after the first. Check date order separately when direction matters.

Seven-day groups do not equal calendar months. Four weeks is 28 days, while most months contain 30 or 31 days. Use a calendar-month calculation for contract anniversaries.

Record enough context to reproduce this elapsed weeks between dates: input source, unit, date and any method choices. A bare number is easy to misread when it is copied into a report or compared later.

Round for communication only after the calculation. The endpoint formatting improves readability but does not increase the accuracy of the measurements, assumptions or source data.

Leap days are handled as ordinary calendar dates. An interval crossing 29 February can therefore contain one more day than the corresponding dates in a non-leap year. The quotient-and-remainder method still groups the final day total correctly.

For age, pregnancy, billing and legal deadlines, the governing convention may use calendar anniversaries, inclusive days, business days or jurisdiction-specific rules. This general elapsed-week result should not silently replace those definitions.

ISO week years can differ from calendar years near January 1. A date may belong to week 1 of the next ISO week year or the last ISO week of the prior one. This calculator avoids that naming system and reports duration only.

If a project lasts 2 weeks and 3 days, the total is 17 days. To move a starting date forward by that duration, use calendar date addition; the present page compares two dates and does not generate a deadline.

Database reports sometimes store timestamps in UTC while users think in local dates. Convert each event to the intended reporting date before entering it; removing the time without resolving the time zone can shift an event across midnight.

For recurring schedules, the remainder is useful: 6 weeks and 2 days equals 44 elapsed days. It does not identify weekdays, so check the actual calendar when staffing, opening hours or holiday rules matter.

Identical dates produce zero weeks, zero remaining days and zero total days. That is a useful boundary check and confirms that the page measures separation rather than counting the shared date as one day.

Common Mistakes

    • Expecting inclusive endpoint counting.
    • Confusing elapsed weeks with ISO week numbers.
    • Assuming four weeks equals every month.
    • Ignoring that direction is removed.
    • Entering ambiguous date text.
    • Adding a daylight-saving hour adjustment.
    • Using the result for business days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are both dates included?

No. It uses the ordinary elapsed-day difference between the dates.

What if the second date is earlier?

The page returns the same absolute duration.

Does it count business weeks?

No. Weekends and holidays are ordinary elapsed days.

Is this an ISO week-number calculator?

No. It groups elapsed days into blocks of seven.

Does daylight saving affect it?

No, because the input contains calendar dates without clock times.

Why is one month not always four weeks?

Calendar months have varying numbers of days.

Can I enter a time of day?

No. The form and validation accept dates only.
